Open Water Scuba Instructor
If you love people, have a passion for diving and want an extraordinary life – become a PADI Instructor. Teaching scuba diving allows you to share your love of the aquatic realm with others while doing what you enjoy – being in, and under, the water. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors and PADI Assistant Instructors are the most sought-after dive professionals in the world because they have completed one of the most demanding programs that sets the standards for dive training professionals.
Are you ready to join the community of professionals dedicated to teaching the world’s most popular and progressive scuba training programs? Then Go PRO on an Instructor Development course.
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and then attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step toward becoming a PADI Instructor.
Successfully completing just one AI course earns the PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows you to participate in an IE toward the full PADI Instructor level.
Dive professionals who have an instructor level from another dive training organization may be eligible to enroll directly in the OWSI program. This recognizes previous instructor training and puts you on the path to becoming a PADI Instructor.

What is an IE?
An Instructor Examination (IE) is a two-day assessment program that tests an instructor candidate's ability, knowledge of diving theory, skill level, understanding of the PADI System, attitude and professionalism. PADI IEs are standardized and conducted by specially trained PADI Instructor Examiners. The location of the IE, the exam environment and the assessment sessions are organized to be as objective as possible in order to fairly and consistently evaluate the candidates' abilities. Only those who meet the requirements to complete an IE obtain the respected PADI Instructor certification. There is a fee or cost to attend an IE.
