Emergency First Response EFR training focuses on building confidence in non-professional lay rescuers and increasing their readiness to respond when faced with a medical emergency. Course participants learn easy-to-follow steps for emergency care and practice applying techniques in a stress-free learning environment. All courses are supported with self-study manuals, videos, and quick reference cards to enhance learning and allow you to begin learning immediately.

EFR courses meet the first aid and CPR training requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver course and all professional levels. Most PADI Instructors are also Emergency First Response Instructors.

The following EFR courses are based on internationally recognized medical guidelines for emergency care.

Academic

  • Primary Care (CPR) – This course teaches you the steps and techniques to handle life-threatening emergencies. You will practice eight techniques to help patients who are not breathing, have no pulse, may have a spinal cord injury, may be in shock, or may be severely bleeding. You will learn how to perform CPR and continue to monitor the patient so that you give them the best chance of survival while you wait for emergency medical services to arrive.

  • Secondary Care (First Aid) – Because many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services are sometimes slow to arrive or unavailable, this course teaches you how to provide first aid that reduces pain and the risk of further harm. You will learn how to assess a wide variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and immobilization.

  • Child Care – This course allows participants to learn, practice, and apply specific emergency care techniques to help infants and children in the event of a medical emergency. It is designed for people who work with children or who are likely to respond to emergencies involving young children. This course is often integrated with Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses.

  • CPR & AED – This course focuses on CPR training and teaching participants how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). When job requirements or government regulations specify this training, the CPR & AED course fills this need. This course is often integrated into First Aid at Work programs.

  • First Aid at Work – In some areas, such as Great Britain, Australia, and Canada, government regulations require more extensive first aid and CPR training for the job. First Aid at Work programs designed for these areas include additional topics and techniques to meet the requirements while still following the easy-to-follow EFR training method.

EFR Refresher Course

It's a good idea to refresh your first aid and CPR skills every 24 months, and that's what the EFR Refresher course is designed to do. Focusing on key techniques, the course allows you to stay up to date and ready to provide assistance when needed.
